A 3-Year Old's Gift To His Mom

My boys started sharing a room about 2 months ago and this works fine for everyone : they don't wake up every night anymore (occasional waking up still happens, though), they keep each other company and have fun before falling asleep and I think it creates a stronger bond between them.

The falling asleep part used to be a hassle for a while (it drove us very close to separating them back), especially at nap time as they would jump on their beds and engage one another till it was too late to insist on napping. I thought this happened because my 3-year old was ready to skip his nap so one day I suggested we leave his little brother sleep on his own and Victor and I read some books in my bed. My son loved the idea. He grabbed a few of his books, I read him one and then let him go through the rest alone while I was reading my own book. Guess what? He fell asleep eventually.

This became part of our daily routine and I always look forward to our time together.

Why do I consider it my son's gift as I was the one who came up with the idea?

My 3-year old goes to preschool 3 days a week, which allows me to enjoy one-on-one time with my 20-months old. But I used to never have "Victor and mommy" time. Now I do!

Each day before nap time, I ask Victor: "Do you want to nap with Eric or read with mommy?" His answer is always the same and my heart fills with joy when I hear it.

I love reading but I hardly have any time left for it these days so I look forward to this special time. I don't get only to read my own book but also set an example for my son. You know what they say: If you want your child to be a good reader, not only read to him but also let him see you read.

I usually wait for my son to fall asleep and then leave the room -  there are always chores left to do, unless I happen to fall asleep myself.

This is my son's gift to me and I love it! What time is it?
